As a woman owned business, Simply Organic Soap is looking to make an impact in the lives of women and their families around the world. That's why a partnership with Eco Soap Bank is a perfect fit.
Eco-Soap Bank is a humanitarian and environmental non-profit organization working to save, sanitize, and supply leftover soap from manufacturers for the developing world. Their work has three objectives:
Eco-Soap Bank seeks to address the critical need for hygiene.
Lack of access to soap remains a critical factor in fighting the spread of preventable diseases worldwide. In some areas of the developing world, only 1% of households have soap for handwashing. Working since 2014, Eco-Soap Bank has sustainably supplied more than 3.5 million people with soap and hygiene education.
Together, we impart the tools and skills to keep people healthy for generations.
Eco Soap Bank educates and employs women to work in their soap operations facility. After collecting and sanitizing the soap, Eco Soap Bank coordinates with a network of humanitarian organizations working in remote regions of developing nations to help distribute the soap and teach workshops. These organizations share the mission to improve hygiene, and work within their communities to create a positive shift in hygiene behavior.
Every bar of soap purchased from Simply Organic Soap supports women worldwide through Eco Soap Bank.
Erin here - time to lift the curtain on one of our processes, holiday soap blend selections.
Today, after a lemongrass flower soap making session, we sat down to determine our holiday soap blends. Do we go fruity (grapefruit, lemon)? Do we go spicy (rosemary, spearmint)? Do we go subtle (lavender, eucalyptus)? Our promise to you is that we will never make a soap that we wouldn’t use ourselves, today, we stuck to that promise.
We have a trio of holiday essential old blends; the peppermint fir needle and cinnamon orange clove are the regulars, the third is our rotation spot. For that third spot, the suggestion of a sage essential oil came up. Now, Sandy and I are not only business partners, we are best friends so without thought I said (loudly) ‘I do not want to smell like a roast chicken so sage is out!”
Have a great weekend friends full of good clean fun knowing that we will not let you smell like a roast chicken.
]]>I loved that soap! When I ran out of it, my mind started turning! I called the owner of the company in Colorado to ask if she ever thought of branching out. After her first initial positive response, the plan fell through. So with the help of some local friends I taught myself to make soap and started experimenting with different organic base oils and essential oils to create that relaxing spa experience in a soap. I started giving it out as gifts under the name Organic Soaps by Sandy and soon people started asking me if they could buy it. In the spring of 2016, Erin jumped on the bandwagon and we came up with the name Simply Organic Soap, grabbed the domain name and put ourselves out there!
We are constantly experimenting with new recipes all the time! The original base of our organic soap took several iterations over about six months until we came up with what we thought was the ultimate spa experience.
We start with our organic base oil recipe and blend those together with a distilled water and sodium hydroxide mixture. Then we can be creative with our essential oils, butters, clays and organic additives to make all our different soaps. Once blended, they are poured into a mold for 24 – 48 hours. After they have set, the soap is unmolded and hand cut. It then has to cure for an additional four weeks, and yes, it is so hard to wait to try it out!!
We usually get together, pull out the essential oils and start thinking about what we like best. We ask our clients what scents take them to their happy place and what’s important to them. Then we research the benefits of the oils and start combining them until we find the right combinations. Wine really helps with inspiration, too!
Yes, one of our awesome owners has a great space for us to harvest local ingredients. We are excited to increase our production in the coming years so we can eventually use all our own ingredients. Until then, we seek out like-minded producers to supplement our raw materials.
By far our Activated Charcoal Face Soap. It just works. Your face feels so clean but not dried out. I’m not allowed to make medical claims but …. it appears to nip break outs in the bud! We also infused some grapefruit, clove and tea tree essential in the bar to leave your skin glowing. A close second is our Signature Soap infused with poppy seeds and lemon, lavender and patchouli essential oils for light exfoliation. It is one of the original combinations we developed and it definitely soothes the senses and smells just like being at the spa!
Commercial soaps are mostly manufactured in large factories using low cost ingredients and usually contain some or all synthetic detergents and fillers. Many commercial soap manufacturers also have the glycerin removed from their soaps so they can sell it to other industries. Glycerin is a natural humectant by-product of the soap making process. The benefit of glycerin is that it attracts and retains moisture on your skin. It’s like having a natural skin lotion in your soap.
We’re currently looking strategically at how wide to stretch our brand. The highest quality is the most important thing to us so we want to make sure we are able to provide that before we add more product categories. We will definitely be expanding our bath bomb and bath salt selections this year. We also have some candles with essential oils on the horizon! The soap recipes will be updated for the seasons and new ideas on an on going basis!
]]>You can hardly read an article about natural healthcare without learning about the benefits of essential oils. These benefits – more energy, stress relieve, muscle relaxation to name a few – are key reasons to why we use only essential oils in our organic soaps. As we worked in the soap kitchen this week, another benefit came to mind, the scents of the various essential oils brought back fond family memories.
Right now, we are busy creating our winter and holiday soaps. Scents of cinnamon, peppermint, and fir needle from the essential oils have filled our space. With those scents came the sharing of memories and laughter about baking cookies, decorating the Christmas tree, passing around candy canes.
We have a lot of fun creating our Simply Organic Soaps for you, good.clean.fun is not just our motto, and not just about our soap, it is also the foundation of our company. Today’s fun was brought to us by cinnamon, peppermint and fir needles. Look for our holiday soaps online and at the Jesuit Christmas Bazaar on December 3 in Dallas, TX. We hope they bring the same good clean fun – and lots of fond memories – to you!
Essential oils can help alter our physical, mental and emotional well-being by triggering and strengthening our bodies’ own natural processes. They are made up of tiny molecules that can deliver healing properties to the systems that control our physiological state. A good way for the body to absorb the therapeutic components of essential oils is a combination of inhalation through the nose and absorption through the surface of the skin.
There are many different companies that supply high quality essential oils for topical use as well as inhalation.
Combining Essential oils in cold process soap making creates a great bar of soap with all the benefits of essential oil therapy. Our goal at Simply Organic Soap is to give you a bar of soap that helps you feel great when you step out of the shower with no extra effort!
Stay tuned for information about specific Essential Oils and their unique properties!
]]>Commercial Soaps are manufactured in large factories using the most economical ingredients. Often they contain some or all synthetic detergents and fragrances as well as filler which dilute the actual soap content. Most often have the glycerine removed.
Handcrafted Soaps on the other hand, are manufactured in small batches with the personal oversight and care of certified soap makers. If the cold process is utilized the glycerine is left in tact and provides amazing hydration to the skin!
Does a handcrafted bar of soap cost more than buying a leading brand at the grocery store? Well, yes but it won’t break the bank and we are sure YOU are worth it! When you take care of your self you have more to give to the rest of the world!
At Simply Organic Soap we seek out only the best, natural ingredients we can find and use the cold process to retain all the wonderful benefits of the essential and base oils. We test out different recipes to get the best options for you! No we don’t test on animals, we test on ourselves! And everyone wants to be the testers!!
]]>Glycerin is a humectant, which means it attracts and retains moisture on your skin. It’s like a natural moisturizer for your skin. And its not greasy, so it great for all skin types. The good news is that Glycerin is a natural byproduct of the Cold Soap Making Process used at SIMPLY ORGANIC SOAP and is, by default, in our all our handcrafted, small batch soaps!
Many people are surprised at how good their skin feel after using one of our soaps in the shower and ask “What are you putting in there to make it so amazing?” The real question should be what are we NOT taking out? The Answer – Glycerin!
Many big soap manufacturers remove the glycerin from their synthetic and detergent based soaps and sell it to other cosmetic and pharmaceutical companies for use in their products or they make a secondary moisturizer from it and sell you 2 products. The result being that your skin feels dried out or you feel like there is a dry film on your skin.
Here are some other great benefits of Glycerin besides hydrating your skin and not leaving you feeling dry and scratchy.
The skin nourishing properties of our handcrafted soaps with glycerin can be used every day in the bath or shower. Its regular use will help your skin look healthier and attractive. It can help even out your skin tone and texture and may reduce the appearance of lines and other surface blemishes.
Glycerin can help cells grow and heal acting as a natural medication for fungal infections like eczema and psoriasis. It can reduce bruising and repair infected tissue and cells more quickly.
Glycerin also increases epidermal layer thickness and improves barrier function locking moisture in and keeping harmful environmental elements out of your skin.
Be glad our Organic Soaps have Glycerin naturally produced in them so you can Enjoy a Spa Day - Everyday! It's just good. clean. fun.
